Have a heart

In Science today we looked at how the heart works and worked in teams against the clock to label the various parts of the heart. Here is a great link (which will be included in your children’s homework tomorrow) that shows just how the blood flows around the body and in reoxygenated  by the lungs.

Dost thou comprehend me Sirrah?

Today we began reading Romeo & Juliet and learnt some words that would have been used in Shakespeare’s time. Here are some that the children should be able to define.

Doth, thou, wast, writ, beseech, alack and sirrah.

There is an interesting PDF in the link below that describes how Shakespeare effectively used language in his plays and prose.

Time for tables

Thank you to those parents who came to this evenings ‘meet & greet’ session. I hope you found the meeting helpful and as promised here are the timetables for the week and the year (topic). I hope by clicking on them you will be able to save/print them at your leisure. Thanks again to all who came and in particular to Mr Goodier for the batteries.

An arm(our) and a leg.

Thanks very much to Megan (and Mum) who sent this picture of Henry VIII’s armour on show in the Tower of London. This armour would have been worn when he fought on foot rather than on horseback. Analysing his suits of armour, the researchers discovered that by the final years of his life, the 6ft 1in Tudor boasted a whopping 52in waist. He really was King size!!

Exploring our Lungs

Having a new baby has it’s advantages! Here the children are turning Jake’s empty baby milk bottles into lungs in order to demonstrate how the lungs work in conjunction with the diaphragm. Ask your child to describe the process – I hope they will remember!!
